FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Clinical
Who can insert the M/29?
Anyone trained to insert a standard peripheral IV cannula. The technique is over-the-needle direct puncture, so no guidewire, dilator or vascular-access team certification is needed. A short in-service on the ward is usually enough.
Which patients benefit most?
Patients expected to need IV therapy for more than 3–4 days, patients with difficult venous access, elderly and frequently admitted patients, IV antibiotic courses (for example in orthopaedics and internal medicine), ICU step-down after central line removal, and home IV therapy.
Is it a midline or a peripheral catheter?
Both. It is a long peripheral catheter, often called a mini-midline: midline-class length and dwell time, inserted like a peripheral cannula. It can replace repeated short cannulas and some guidewire midline uses.
Where should it be inserted?
The upper arm is recommended for the longest dwell. The forearm is possible. The catheter tip should sit fully above or fully below the elbow, not across it. Ultrasound guidance is optional and helpful for deeper veins.
Can it be used with the Seldinger technique?
No. The M/29 is designed for direct over-the-needle puncture only.
Can it be used for chemotherapy or vesicant drugs?
The deciding factor is tip position. The M/29 tip lies in a peripheral vein, not centrally, so only infusates suitable for peripheral administration should be given. Drugs that require a central line need a PICC or CVC. Always follow local policy and the IFU.
Can blood be drawn through it?
It is technically possible. As with any catheter, aspiration increases the risk of complications, so local flushing and locking protocols must be followed.
Why can it stay in place up to 29 days?
The 8.5–10 cm catheter places the tip in a larger vein with better haemodilution. It moves less and keeps the point of drug release away from the insertion site. That reduces the mechanical and chemical irritation that ends the life of short cannulas.
Technical
What sizes are available?
18G (78.5 or 85 mm, plus 18G Long at 98 mm), 20G and 22G, in ported and non-ported (winged) designs. See the product page for references and flow rates.
Is it suitable for power injection?
Yes. It is rated to 325 PSI, for example for CT contrast.
Is it compatible with ultrasound?
Yes. The needle tip can be seen and followed under ultrasound.
What is the pink port?
An injection port for bolus doses and quick access on the ported version. The non-ported version has wings for fixation and is designed for use with a single needle-free extension set.
How is it fixed?
With standard securement devices and dressings. The non-ported version has wings with fixation points.
What is the regulatory status?
CE marked as a Class IIa medical device under EU MDR 2017/745. It is manufactured under an ISO 13485 quality system and sterilised with ethylene oxide.
Commercial
How is it packed?
25 units per box and 500 units per shipper carton. Bulk and private-label packing can be discussed.
How is it priced and shipped?
Prices are quoted to distributors per territory, ex-works. Goods ship by courier or air freight with full lot and expiry documentation. Small quantities are usually available for immediate shipment; larger orders within about 60 days.
Do you offer exclusivity?
Yes. After an evaluation period, we appoint one partner per territory. Exclusivity is based on the partner’s own multi-year sales plan, with annual targets and exit points, so both sides stay committed.
What about registration outside the EU?
CE marking covers the EU and countries that accept it. For other markets the partner is the local registration holder, and we provide the technical file and support.
Can we get samples?
Yes. Qualified distributors receive samples for evaluation by their specialists and key customers. Larger quantities are supplied against a valid launch plan. Use the form to request them.
